Rethinking global supply chains – SAFRI at the AHK World Conference 2025
On May 14, 2025, SAFRI organized a panel discussion on the topic of “Rethinking supply chains: How to strike a balance between resilience and interests” as part of the World Conference of German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK).
The panelists included Dr. Gaby Bornheim (President of the German Shipowners’ Association), Barbara Gessler (Head of the European Commission Representation in Germany), Kirsten Schoder-Steinmüller (Vice President of the DIHK), and Rasmus Woermann, Deputy Chairman of the Sub-Saharan Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI) and CEO of C. Woermann GmbH & Co. KG. The discussion was moderated by Dr. Melanie Müller (German Institute for International and Security Affairs).
The discussion focused on the future of global supply chains, geopolitical uncertainties, and the need for sustainable transformation. In his contribution, Rasmus Woermann emphasized the importance of fair partnerships with African economies. He argued that diversification must go beyond Asia and that African markets should be viewed not only as an alternative but as a strategic option.
The organization of the panel is part of SAFRI’s commitment to greater engagement by German business in Africa and to the discussion of viable solutions to specific challenges facing business in Africa.
